Xr2i 1.8 16v to 2.0 zetec quick question/advice
Hi, i have recently purchased an Xr2i which has had a 2.0 zetec engine from a mondeo put in it.
Firstly i noticed it was still registered as a 1.8 on the log book. I wanna get this changed to the correct 2.0 ltr for insurance purposes, is it a case of simply telling the DVLA to get the log book changed?
Also its still running drum brakes on the back. will this cause a problem with braking due to the higher power? i've had it out and it seems to brake ok with drilled and grooved disks on the front but under heavy braking they do start to smell a little ( i've only heavily stopped once by the way )
i'm considering swapping the rear axel for a rs turbo one with the disc brakes.
Any advice or comments would be much appreciated.

Discs brakes did not comes as standard on the RS or any other mk3 for that matter, It's also not worth upgrading as the drums are more than capable of dealing with whatever you can throw at it. If you are into spirited driving you might want to upgrade the fronts though as this where most of the cars braking is done. Also the chances are that the RS turbo rear bean will be the same as the 2i anyway.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Ah i see, wasn't aware of that. thanks.
i take it when you say upgrading the brakes you mean bigger discs and calipers? The car i got came with very little if any service history. theres nothing about the conversion so i don't know whether it was a cowboy job or done properly. the guy i brought it off said that the previous owner had done the conversion.
The car seems to run fine, no problems at all and according to the previous owner it never caused him any problems apart from haviing to change the engine mounts as they were fcuked. I just like to make sure everythings as it should be (hence log book change and that)
Do you know of anything else i should look out for?

if u want to change them get some of these, they are piss easy to fit and they stop mine good enough

yep just do a straight forward brake conversion at the back replace the drums with the discs loads of online stores sell rear disc conversion kits try this one http://www.europerformance.co.uk/ ... as for the smell of ur brakes on the front its normal and if you did heavy braking then dnt worry bout it or http://www.rimstyle.co.uk
