Xr2i 16v running rough

Hello people!!
I have just been to see a friend of mines xr2i , it's all very clean and nearly ready for the road except that it has a running issue. It runs fine over 3000rpm but on tickover it sounds like it's only running on two. He has done coilpack leads and plugs. We disconnected a few things whilst I was there but none seemed to make any difference. I wasn't too sure where the lambda sensor is but I'd imagine it connects to the wire coming from the manifold??
Anybody know what could be causing it to run so badly?? Or anything else that's worth checking??

Cheers guys!!
