The xr2i 100% the same head and im sure so is the cam. When doing a head gasket most time's the head will need a skim which done by a good company is ok and make sure it just a small skim as it will highter the compression in the engine

As far as i no thexr2i head will bolt on but the valves are designed to withstand higher temperature on the turbo head and i thought the cam would av been designed for the turbo

head and cam on xr2i are the same as the FRST, 100%.

i thought the cam was different untill i called fords a while back to get a price, thats when i was told to get a s/h head inc cam off a 2i (as cam was about £150) as they are the same, double checked this when i went down for some bolts, and sure enough, part number is the same for both.

turbodaily, ive heard this before, from what i remember this only applied to the S1 ERST, might be others but not the fiesta dude

Sodium-filled valves only on ERSTs (and I'm not sure if it was just the S1 head or both S1 and S2, altho iirc Microrat lists them for the S2 head).

Everything else seems to be the same - even cams according to Microcat/tech info, just gasket tightening torque settings vary in places.

nice touch for the price mate.

when you say you still have a rattle, have you tried slacking the rocker arms and re tightening them, this worked for me, also did you soak the new tappets in oil for a few hours? they say 24 hours but ya dont need to do it that long, 30 mins would be enough really, as long as there submerged.

The cam AND tappets on the CVH must be changed at the same time for new items - you can't mix and match new with old (and definitely not old with old!).

ya right but ya also wrong, as long as the cam isn't fooked you can use new tappets on a old cam, i did, my mate did, loads of people do all the time, and they never had problems, lets face it, unless you wear the base of the tappet they get nosiey, but work the same as new ones.

You're right - it's possible, but with all due respect Jay, mixing old and new on the CVH is asking for trouble, pure and simple. It accelerates the wear on the cam and tappets.

I just don't see the point of adding a load of very hard, fine swarf into the oil system you inevitably get from a cam/tappets wearing fast.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one :)

i know what ya saying dude, its not ideal but it can be done, down to the person whos car it is, i only done it as one of my tappets was fooked, as in it was dished on the bottom :o stuck a new set in so i could make it driveable again, lucky for me the cam was fine, and even though i done a oil and filter change, i still managed to score the crank and knock the big end out below it  guess i was unlucky but at the time i was planning a zetect turbo, so "making it drivable" was for the short term to and from work till i got laid off, but now im rebuilding the cvh as i really dont need the power a zetec turbo will make on the small isle of wight  hey ho the fun, still im getting a cam kit to stick in this time, all new stuff

back to the tappet thing, depending on if a cam and tappets are fitted or just tappets, if the cam is fine and ya wanna do just new tappets, go for it, if ya wanna do a whole new cam kit ( and some motor factors are fairly cheap for whole came kits) depends on how skint/tight ya are

if you take the tappets out and the bottom (cam lob end) isnt damaged then not really mate, they get nosiy, its what they do, replacment is the only way mate for tappets, if ya wanna check the cam ya got to take it out and check it over, as foe big ends, if ya wanna check them let the car idle and get down and with a bar put a end on the sump and ya ear on the other, work ya way along, might have to get a mate to rev it a tiny bit but if theres a bottom end rattle your hear it through the bar.

another this it could be ya water pump, best thing to do is stick the bar on various parts of the engine while its running and check for the sound you can hear but through the bar, just dont get the bar to close to any moving parts, cam belt, pullys etc, it wont be forgiving if it pulls it in!

You have a wire rung block, nice touch but very much overkill for the standard pistons you have there. The idea is simple, the copper protrudes above the deck slightly and forms a tight seal around the fire rings on the head gasket in order to support higher cylinder pressures (more boost basically).

It looks like you have a fresh engine build; the bores look fresh and the pistons look new. I'd like to think that whoever built it didn't skimp on £40 worth of bearings when they had spent £400+ on pistons, although nothing suprises me with 2nd hand Ford engines anymore!

The first thing I'd do is to check the cam lobes with a set of vernier calipers.

sorry to hijack post

but what gains can i expect if i use a RS Turbo Stage 3 Big Valve Ported Head on a 1.6 8v xr2i
the head has a full ARMED BAYJOO KENT CAM KIT (CVH34)

my xr2i is standard apart from piperx filter , induction kit and peco bb4 back box

also would it be ok to fit a frst head to a standard 2i bottom end
