XR2i power and acceleraion help

Postby Yumyum33 on Tue Jun 21, 2005 10:22 am

I have managed to source an RS1800 ECU, and throttle body for my 1.8 16v XR2i, and am wondering whether there is any point putting these upgrades on the car, before I source some cams, as this will probably not be for another couple of months.

Does anyone have any idea what sort of power I should be looking at, if I putting the following modification on;

Stainless steel back box (already on)
(K&N?) Panel Filter
RS1800 ECU
RS1800 Throttle body
130bhp cams (possibly Piper or Kent, if I can afford it)
Superchip (set up professionally).

I am just wondering if it is going to be worth it, as I can’t afford to but a new car, and thus am going to mod my (nearly) standard Zetec XR2i. I am looking for some more acceleration really.

Also I have seen that a lot of people go with the new manifolds, but how does that work with the catalytic convertor. This may sound like a silly question, but the police are very picky round here, and would not like to be caught out by on the spot emissions testing.

Cheers for any feedback you can give.

Any other suggestions, let me know.

i would put the 2.0l throttle body on mate, made a nice difference on my 16v 2i!

i wouldnt put the cam on until just before you get it mapped,

i wouldnt bother with the ECU if your going to get a custom chip mapped tbh.

with the mods your looking at about 135 bhp.

putting a manfiold on wont effect your emissions to the point that the police would do ya for it.

but if its acceleration your after mate, putting a 2.0l zetec in would be the best tbh, you would get 136bhp standard with shed loads more torque!

i believe mmogenious on this site offers the conversion, give him a shout!
