XR3i to RSturbo

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

I have a mk4 XR3i. I also have a Tax-free RS-turbo. I want to change everything from the RS to XR. What do I have to change? I need to do this, otherwise I have to pay taxes for the RS turbo. What differences do the XR3i engine and RS-turbo engine have? Different Fuel injections? Does RS have an intercooler? Bigger brakes? Can I change the engine without changing the 'ID' number of my XR3i?

I have 17" rims, and the rusty rear drums aren't really pretty. What does it take to change XR3i rear drums into discs?

Thanks in advance,
-Frank

Can Only Answer some of your Questions on this one,

The Escort RS Turbo (Series 2) has Enlarged Front Disks and rear drums, compared to the MK4 Xr3i

You can Purchase a Kit that converts the Xr3i / Escort RS Turbo to Front and Rear Disks, Willword supply the kit and it is around £500, uses Serria Xr4x4 Calipers and disks,

The Escort RS Turbo has an Air to Air Intercooler,

hope it helps

[Edited by Andrew Malcolm (03-01-2001 at 07:07 PM).]

The Engine swap wouldn't change the "id" number on your Xr3i, you would just have an Xr3i with a Escort RS Turbo Engine Number

There are a few Engine Differences between the Xr3i and the Escort RS, the RS engine runs a lower compression Ratio, has a Different Exhaust Manifold with the T03 Turbo Mated on to it.

Hope this Helps some more

Is the the '3i EFi?
I thinks the only questions that have been missed are.
The RS has a completely different injection system.
The Turbo engine uses shallower pistons to lower the compression. Has a water to oil cooler at the oil filter, uses a T-piece at in the oil temp sender hole to take off oil to the turbo & has a pipe in the front of the block to return the Turbo's oil back into the sump.
Yes the RS uses an intercooler next to the shorter rad. The S2 cooler bolts onto the rad. The S1 cooler just bolts next to the rad.
The rear calipers are covered in my site www.XRturbo.co.uk , but i'm sure you'll find it on this site aswell.

Just a quickie jeff.
the XR3i shafts will fit an RS Turbo box. My Escort XR turbo has the Turbo box, but i kept my '3i shafts 'cos they were newer although the main shaft itself is thicker on the Turbo the splines & joints are the same.
You're right about the '3i brakes though, they're t*ss.

You also need all the engine electrics...loom, both ecu's, sensors etc, plus the fuel tank and fuel lines + pump.

Also, the RST gearbox has an LSD, and I'm pretty sure you cannot fit an RST gearbox to an Xr3i. You'll need the driveshafts plus the hubs (to fit bigger brakes, as the standard RST brakes are $hit!).

Lastly, you'll need the rad from the RST, especially if the engine is from an S2 as it has water pipes to cool the turbo bearing.

Jeff
