Young driver insurance
Hello all,
I've been shopping around for some insurance quotes to try and see what engine size I can realistically afford. I've been driving now for a little over 9 months - but I've only ever been a named driver.
So far I've had quotes from £1366 to £4000 on a rotten £400 1.1LX for example. Is this usual for somebody of my age (19)? Or am I being ripped off and looking in the wrong places - if so where should I be looking?
Thanks in advance,
- Leon

Confused.com was quoting me £1500+
That's with maximum excess, no disqualifications, no (recorded) accidents.
Edit: Only filled out some forms 10 minutes ago - clicked the box saying Please don't contact me and just had a phonecall from a nice guy called Brett offering me a pass plus course for £100!

I'm paying £1200 with Quinn direct for a 1.1 Sapphire. Cheapest i could find. I'm 18 and it's my first year driving. Just gotta bite the bullet i'm afraid.
Next year is looking alrite though, Just under £900 for a 1.6 Si. a few other car i'm thinking of which will reamin unnamed
So that's a better car and a £300 insurance discount. Can't wait! (just have to save up to buy the better car now...)

'Kin hell, it wasn't that much when I was 18. There's me thinking £1500 was bad for a 24 year old on an ST

norwich might not take any mods though i've heard. confused aren't great for young drivers, do what I did, get the yellow pages, and spend a day or two phoning everyone. I managed to get mine from 2200 down to £1450, try Quinn Direct, Fantastic for mods too, only count engine mods as an insurance raise.

my insurance last year @ 17 was £1600 on a 1.1 with Norwich Union, i declared alloys and body kit, also i had pass plus, but the said the mods cancle the pass plus out so it was back to tyhe origonal price.
this year i went with quinn-direct £668 1yrs NCB.
I went on confused.com and they said Quinn-direct was £900, but when I phoned em it was £668.
So phone em directly cos I reckon confused must take a bit!!

Im on direct line. My car is a 1999 (Mk4) 1.25 zetec fez.
Always tricky with a 16v I guess. They wanted £2100! Luckily my mum is on direct line too so they gave me a discount for 'other family member using us' kinda thing so I paid £1800.
Next renewal is due in January, after 1 year of driving with no claim = £973.
Places like admiral and those that compare others are just crap ive found.
I might shop around this time though as I dont think il get a discount this year from parents being on direct line. Plus direct line dont cover modified cars if your under 21yrs old.

i got a 1.3 Lx costing me £1300 (just under), I went with http://www.quinn-direct.com
I think it's one of the cheapest, I'm 18 under Named Driver thrid party fire & theft .
Full comp is prbs somewhere near £2000-2500 someone of my age so i'll just stick to third party etc.
