zetec 1.6Si to get RS1800 or 2.0 mondy conv.
I have a 1.6Si looking now i want it to look and pukka sound system. Now i want to get the engine sorted.
I may be after a conversion from an RS1800. Will this engine jus swap straight in. What would be better for power gains the RS1800 or the 2.0L mondy engine. Seeing that im after to turbocharge the unit too after the conversion. Im also not that wealthy, lol. I would prefer to use an RS1800 unit as i already have full magnex exhaust system and i can use that straight on the rs1800 lump.
Is it possible to get better power gains from a RS1800 unit after turbo charging. I have seen a turbo unit from a FRST for sale, T2.
What will aso need to be changed when turbocharging the engine. Are there any kits out there to use with turbo'ing the RS1800 unit. How much are they.
Pls help, cheers.

u can use the exhaust on the 2.0 too as u are using a fiesta zetec manifold...
i got an rs1800 exhaust on my 2.0 and it was also on my 1.6 so that wont cause u any probs
i'd recomend the 2.0 mainly for the low down torque it gives... u can drive in 5th at 20mph and accelerate with ease (obviously if u floor it, it WILL struggle lol)
plus.. what sounds better.. 1.8 oe 2.0 LOL ... well 2.1 turbo sounds even better but there u go

can i add my 2p's worth ?
You are better off getting the 2.0 engine.
Its cheaper to get hold of and gives out the same 130bhp as the rs1800.
The 200cc extra in the 2.0 offers a bit more in more tuning.
You could bolt on a T2 running say 4 to 5 PSI but that would see minimal power gains.
Ive been doing a lot of research into zetec tuning and the only real way to get big power from a 1.8 or 2.0 is to go for a proper turbo conversion - and not a "Off the shelf kit" a certain very-unhelpful company offers.
Or there are throttle bodies. But costs around £2000 you could see around 200bhp on a 2.0, but it wont have nowhere near as much torque as a turbo engine!
cheers

if the 1.8 zetec is going in a car with a 1.6 zetec orginal in you don't need to change anything over just drop it in

Bear in mind there are two different 1800 Zetec engines that came in mk5 XR3is - the 105ps and the 130ps models. It's the rarer 130ps model you really want (same as the RS1800 engine).
Personally I wouldn't bother with the hassle if you've got a 105ps engine, SimonT has one of these in his XR2i 16v (standard engine in these) and he obviously isn't happy about its power output, look at all the research hes doing into converting it to 130ps spec etc.
Just a thought
