Zetec - Any tips PLEASE?
I want to modify my 1800 zetec (escort GTi). So far i only have the 57i and magnex (cat back). The cat will be history soon too.
However I'm stuck on ideas for the internals of the engine. Should I go for Beige injectors etc...?

try a of piper cam kit for some top end power.
what about balancing the flywheel and crankshaft.
you could get a four branch exhaust manifold.
remember the more things you do, no matter how small they are they will make a difference.

Try keeping the cat and spending the money on a Unichip or new management? If you have it properly done you will probably get a helluva lot more well-mapped power than the "hit and miss" approach of a filter and zorst.
For 130PS, the RS1800 exhaust cam, 130PS (i.e. RS1800 or 2.0L) throttle body and ECU should cover it You may also need the 130PS MAF - Mark Stewart ( http://www.fiestaprojects.com ) can offer a great deal more advice and experience regarding Zetec tuning.
What year is the engine? If it's a series 1 Zetec (DOHC embossed on the rocker cover) you may need the under-piston cooling oil sprays to keep combustion chamber temps down.

Set of DCOE carbs mate or throttle bodies for proper power hikes, then balance eveything and get the head flowed and a trick set of cams = FUN but no fuel economy but carbns will make pops and flames etc and sound great = MORE FUN

that should be a Series 2 zetec i would have thought !
to gain real power new bottom end turbo or throttle bodies on a zetec !
thats gonna cost !
a new set of cams would sort you out but probably sacrifice something ie higher top speed will sacrifice lower end grunt !
Id follow clairs example
it need not be as expensive as clairs but she had a new engine and IH did it
A DIY job would be much cheaper if you got the gumption !

You don't want lowered compression unless you have a turbocharger. Higher compression is the way to go for N/A cars - but you'll have to run high octane fuel from then on.
You're also probably find that the mondy management won't be any better (it probably exactly the same management as you're running at the moment).
I also doubt you're need the uprated injectors either as your current ones should be able to flow enough fuel.
I think the 130ps throttle body (or even better Alpha-Weber Throttle Bodies + management and injectors ££££ Speak to Grahamb as he's done this) coupled with a high com bottom end and some cams would be a very good start.
Basically if you want BIG power then you need to get yourself a turbo!

Duncan
The Mndeo ECU will make some difference as it is set for the 130ps engine, yes you need to higher the compression that was my fault I gav hime the wrong info when I spoke to him earlier, crossed wires and all that.
The beighe Mondeo injectors have a higher flow capacity and would be needed if he were to run a flowed head at some point thats what claires got in hers.
you right about the fuel Clairs runs like crap on normal BP bat is awesome with shell optimax or even BP + nitrox
And he's gotta speak to me for his stuff after all I am his Bro
Hows the motor going Duncan ?

Cheers for the correction on mondy management.
Cars coming along nicely - should have the new engine fitted within a couple of weeks if all goes well.

yep Maky, change the Throttle body for either an RS1800 one (if u can find one) or alternatively an easier option to find is the 2.0L Mondeo one which is basically the same as the RS1800.

Changing out the Intake always works well on Zetecs, but you normally only get top end power from it, why don't you just drop an entire 2.0L in? I take it you don't cos the cylinder head mounts (engine) are different. Don't waste money on an FSE, I used to have faith in em till I got the car dyno'ed with one on.
Anyone tried adapting a Focus engine (2.0) into their Feista/Escort yet, with the gear box as well?
The CAT's also make very little difference on these engines as well.
If you are going for decent power replace your rod bolts with ARP items, this is a must, you don't want to put out an engine fire with some decaf coke like I did!
Hope it helps, any questions about modding 2.0 Zetecs give us a shout, oh if you are using a whole engine Mk1 Mondys are the best!
