Zetec cam gear bolts

Postby Dans mondeo on Fri Jun 07, 2013 9:35 pm

Why the hell did ford ever make them cam gear bolts with a torx on it for. Why couldn't it be a normal bolt head. They are so hard to remove. Does anyone know if an impact gun is good to un do them, it only ever sheers if I'm using a breaker bar

get this tool

http://www.toolbench.co.uk/Draper-Exper ... es-P4493A/

and these if you havent

http://www.virtualtoolvan.com/shop/inde ... age&pID=90

and do it with a torque wrench, i've done loads of bolts on the cams without problems with these

but i understand your frustration over it....

I have torx sockets. Plenty of them. Just the holder I needed

The arp replacement ones are 12pt heads instead of the torx

Larger surface area means you can get more torque on, torx fasteners are very good, though it's usually a good idea to tap the bits in to make sure they site securely (and helps jog the bolts free).
Nothing to see here...
