Zetec Conversion - Idling issue

Problem or technical question?

Zetec Conversion - Idling issue

Postby p777key on Tue Apr 01, 2014 7:51 pm

My zetec conversion is struggling to start - when it does start the idle is very low and if I blip the throttle it stalls.

Frustrated isn't the word. Was running fine a few months ago, nothings been changed or replaced since.

Could be a number of things really mate:
Maf or map whichever your using
Coolant temp sensor
Fuel pressure
Spark plugs/leads/coilpack
Idle control valve
Throttle position sensor

Fuel pressure would probably my first check as its easy and free you might have a blocked hose maybe, when was your last filter change?

Then i would check icv and tps

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help:

Have already changed plugs, leads, maf, tps. ICV has been cleaned and tested while off the car, the solenoid was popping ok, had no gasket though!

Also took fuel filter off and tried running without it - still the same.

CTS is interesting having checked that - can i just bridge the terminals on the loom and see what happens? I shall have a go and get back to you.

Checked everything again and when the engines idling low and I take off the pipe to the fuel pressure regulator it runs lovely but still dies when I blip the throttle.

My brother got a spare one - think I've got a slight leak near Injector 1 as the engine note changes when sprayed with carb cleaner. So I'll change the whole rail and injector seals, hopefully that will work.

ps. Also noticed the very thin vent pipe isn't connected to the fuel tank from the cap, would this let air into the system?

Cheers for the help most appreciated.
