zetec e tensioner pulley question

Postby jonny nitro on Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:29 am

hi lads so heres the first of many possibly silly questions but still i need some sort of an answer

im attempting a belt change on my doner engine (zetec e slivertop 1800) from a mondeo
and i am looking at the tensioner pulley so how do i do it up as the hayes manual iv borrowed is for a focus
and talks about a window and an arrow ?? cant find that
so i looked at the mk3 manual thats linked off here form what i see thats chatting about a spring from the pulley to a post on the block i can see the hole for the post but no post/spring hanger
so before i go any further i said id ask here
thanks in advance lads

On the tensioner there is a hexagonal hole, you put an allen key in there and turn it clockwise I think, putting tension on the belt, then you tighten up the bolt to hold the tensioner in place.

You'll get a spring and little post thing in a cambelt kit, from memory it's there as a backup safety if the bolt loosens off slightly.

Yeah it's not compulsory that you use it as such. I've seen cars run without them before.
