Zetec into a ka
I am wanting to fit a 2ltr engine into a ka. I was wondering if you guys and gals could help me out.
i was wondering how difficult it will be. i am quite handy with a car, but i have never fitted an engine before, so i wondered on difficulty and any other parts i may need.
or would it just be easier to pay a garage to do it?
thanks

Don't quote me on this, but was talking to my bro about the SPORTka and he told me it's a 1.6 8v because the 16v head is too big to fit into the engine bay. This (As well as cost saving) is the reason why the yamaha built 1.25 and 1.4 16v units were never put into the KA, leaving those unrefined 1.3 8v as the only choice.
Seeing as the 2.0l mondeo lump is a 16v there maybe space issues.
This was nothing more than banter so don't take as precendence

the zetec can be fitted into the ka bay fairly easily! using the cvh to ka body mount and i think its a escort mrk 5 mount drilled with a few different holes! you can use the fiesta turbo isolator mount!
the only problem being is the hieght of the zetec its bigger than the cvh, this can cause propblems when tryign to shut the bonnet, sapcing the engine so it sits lower is a simple option!
the wiring then is pretty much the same from what i can make out as the cvh engine maybe a few differences!
its the option i wanted to do before i fitted the turbo lump in mine!
if you need any info pm me as i have a few pictures of the mounts modifed etc!

there are alternatives to gain similar speeds to the 2.0 zetec.
pumabuild can stick a 1.6 zetec s engine into the ka for around a grand or a 1.7 zetec se for around 2grand. the 1.6 providing around 100bhp and the 1.7 providing around 125 bhp that can be tuned a bit more.
although i read an old article in fast ford that said about 1.8 and 2.0 zetecs being put in the ka. it read;
" ford facelifted the ka in 1999 with bigger engines in mind, and if you find a ka with the later "flared" front bumpers the reshaped crossmember will allow a zetec 16v engine to fit. the 1800 is ideal and will even mate to the original gearbox. the 2 litre will fit too but has more clearance problems and is a bit much for the gearbox. Fords SVE engineers even built some zetec engined prototypes, which were kept top secret but were apparantly a blast to drive"
hope this helps
