Zetec S rear beam

Postby Makaveli on Thu Sep 18, 2008 12:56 pm

Can some one tell me how I tell the difference by eye between a standard mk5 rear beam and a zetec s rear beam? I know the zetec s rear beam has extra bracing but if some one has pictures of both and can highlight the differences I would be very grateful :)

IIRC the ZS beam is wider aswell, but that mite be all mk 5 beams. The extra bracing is the only other difference, the webbing at the corners is wider

Cheers fella. Do you have any pics so I can see how much wider the webbing is so if I see a beam in isolation I can tell if its a zetec-s or normal one

They have an extra bit of pipe welded onto where the drums go, To the beam. Its not on the normal beams. As for them being wider I think its a myth, Mine never got wider when I fitted it. I think the extra width comes from when you fit focus discs.

You can see the extra bit in this pic..

Never measured it no, But 10mm is quite a lot and I would of noticed it. Especially with the scrubbing as it used to do it at particular places etc and it never did it any worse!

i know mate, i work in aircraft, 10mm is easy to spot, try noticing a rivet that is 4 thousands of an inch under
BUT ive heard of many people saying they are wider, i wonder where the info came from ?
Something i will investigate if i get the chance :D

Cheers Fella thats exactly what i wanted to know. I think the extra width on some models comes from spacers that fit between the drum and beam that look like this:

I read somewhere that rear beams with the fork type mounting had 10mm spacers as standard fitted to the rear which probably makes up for the extra length.

Not sure how true this is though?

I know someone thats making independent rear beams for the Fiesta  They are really only for track days as you will need a custom exhaust and a fuel cell.

Very sweet, can you post some pictures up? What sort of price would you be looking at? As I'd be very interested in that in the long term
