Zetec Superchips

Postby SimonT on Sun Feb 02, 2003 5:34 pm

Does anyone have one fitted to a Zetec engine? (Preferably a 1.8 XR2i)

How much was it and is it any good? What is the so clamed difference in drivability like?

cheers

Try asking Nick_2i. He has a Superchip on a 1.8 XR2i.

a friend just had his done on his 16v 2i - can't remember what power was at the flywheel but it peaks at 109bhp (5600 rpm) at the wheels

other mods just a k&n and magnex (with decat pipe)

oh, and it was a unichip too cost just over £400 methinks :o

that is really good going for a figure at the wheels!

what throttle body has he got on?

also what fuel does he have to run on?

ive heard that when you chip them you have to use better quality fuel?

Still needs a new sig!!
1.6CVH EFI mk2 turbo (not running needs new front panel)

you can get away with standard 95 octane fuel, its not as if the engine uses high compression or turbo charging so detonation/pinking is not a risk.

I've got one on my 98 R 1.4, in addition to a K&N 57I, s/s back box & FSE power boost valve..

107 BHP at the wheels on road @ 5800....... + 15% more torque... :)

.....when ragging it = 20 MPG..... :(

I got 60bhp at the wheels.

Hmmm.... 16v here I come ;)

Mav, I can appreciate how the FSE valve would confuse the ECU if the chip was designed to take into account the standard pressure regulator's slower throttle response but a UniChip with a custom map should be configured to take this into account, shouldn't it?

Yeah ive got a superchip in my 16v 2i and its noticeably quicker :D it picks up better than it used to even though it picked up well before due to the fact its got quite a bit of torque.

It makes the most difference in 3rd as it pulls really hard :D

Fuel consumption isn’t as good but i don’t know if that’s due to the chip or the fact i drive it quicker than i did before  :

I bought my second hand off 16vsi, i dont know if i would pay £250 for one though...

Probably more than my 107! :D

But I bought the car before getting into modding! 8)

Answering your question though - and using "proper" equipment.....

if it's 135 at the fly, that must equal about 120 at the wheels?
