Zetec turbo building help

Postby russ-RST on Sat Apr 06, 2013 12:42 pm

Right iv just bought a 1.8 silver top zetec engine for extremely cheap of a friend with the intention of building a zetec turbo with it. The engine will be fitted to my fiesta rs turbo, and at first I would like to run it on the standard management with a chip and bigger Injectors for around 200 bhp. But once I have saved enough cash I will be getting management sorted , have been thinking about the ofam ecu as I don't need to buy/make a loom and for £14 it wil come with a 4.5bar map sensor and is plug and play with megasquirt 2 software installed.
So ideally at first I want Around 200 but would like to push 300 odd but that depends if I can get steel rods if not whatever I'm safe with on shot peened standards.

I have 3 questions

1: what are the de comp plate and head gaskets methods like? I'm pretty wary of these and don't think itl last tbh but would be good to see if people have tried them and the outcomes

2: I have heard you can apparently fit the Audi/vw 1.8 turbo pistons, from what I can gather these are 81mm pistons so the block would need a hone/bore , and the pin is a different size to the zetec so would like to know what I need to so to rectify this so they fit

3: what would the standard rods be like if i got them.. shot peened, machined for the Audi pistons and use ARP bolts , or could anyone point me In the direction of some steel rods at a realistic price, seen 2l rods go for 250-300 from USA but can't find anywhere that does 1.8 rods for not silly money

Any help this would be greatly appreciated :)
