zetec turbo guys, what turbo you got?

Postby SamT on Thu Feb 08, 2007 7:36 pm

hi there, brief spec of what my engine will be...

2.0 16v zetec series 2 (silvertop)
forged pistons
steel rods
rover inlet
cossie lights greens (think i will change them to dark greens)
cossie 2wd throttle body
stainless tubalur manifold
external wastegate
big front mount ic
stage 1 port, standard valves etc
Prob look at some turbo specd cams (well most deffinately will get some)
full balanced bottom end
lightened flywheel
mtx75 gearbox

im wanting around 300bhp, it's not gona be an everyday car, gona be built for trackdays etc

Now what turbo would you guys recomend?

Thanks

t3 or higher. on any zetec turbo it is ideal to go for a t3 minimum as the t2's just run out of puff too quickly. go for a t34 hybrid or something similar

well it all depends on where they stop boosting doesnt it . theres no point in getting a turbo that gives power upto 9'000 revs when the zetec only goes upto around 7k max

The GT28RS would be a pretty good match I think. If you want 300bhp from the 2.0 you'll need something in the region of 1.5 bar, so going by this map for the turbo spec shown (from atpturbo.com), this would be a pretty good match for what you're after:

but the T34 of the escort cossie will give you more lag then the GT28R... but its cheaper to buy and to repair.

what about a gt28r from here? i know its not a garrett but???

anyone had dealings with them? seems alot cheaper than any other iv seen so far, plus the exchange rate at the mo makes it nearly half price with a £ sign. Says on the site shipping $100 seems ok. i'd have to double check tho. Any one got any ideas on how much import tax i would have to pay :aaah:

wts the spec of your engine mate? and what t3 were you using. What kinda torque were you getting aswel? cheers

iv actually been swaying towards a t34 aswell. would the gt28rs even be good enough for 300bhp? and also im thinking about traction aswell because the t28 is gona hit boost alot quicker, so maybe i would be better off using a bigger turbo?

Sounds as though you need to find out what flange is on your fannymould also. This would dictate alot of what turbochargers you are limited too.

if all that's read is to be believed, the GT28 is the one to go for as its got next to no lag allegedly, whereas the t34 is a tad laggy.

t34 cosworth turbo exhaust housing is 0.63
