zetec turbo help
ok, im planning to take my car off the road in september time. Basicly i have my 1.8 16v fiesta and i wanna use the engine i have in the car. Im not looking for massive power, but around the 200 bhp would be nice. So what i wanna know is what parts do i need to set the system up.
Im also getting the head ported and a nice higher lift cam. I have a spare non working head, so i can alway practice on that before doing it on my engine, so any help in what parts i need and advice would be good.
Also, at the moment, my gear box and diff aint the best, so should i invest in a new box and LSD to help get power to the floor?
thanks in advanced.

Plenty of info can be found from the search function
A Bernie box (http://www.gearboxman.co.uk iirc) is always £500 well spent when it comes to putting down a lot of power.

*ALOT* of work is involved in a zetec turbo mate, not to mention the cost, why not just go 2000cc NA if your only after 200bhp??? Just to show you what i have gone through so far, have a look here-

Yep, definately agree with that, my 1.5month project is currently at 2 months and will easily be three before its finished and ready to run just due to lead times on parts, modifications, engineering work, needing the engine to be in the car before certain things can be done (like fuel, boost and coolant piping)
Make sure you have no rush for the car and hopefully a third kidney you can sell
Thanks

If you only want 200bhp you can use a t3 turbo, about 7psi should see 200bhp i would have thought. injectors, you may need MSD ones if you want to use FRST management with a live map (approx ~£900), if you go to another type of management you can probably use any injectors you want, cosworth ones would be a good idea.
Thanks

Depend which tuners are close to you mate, no point buying a management system that you need to drive 300miles to get set up each time you change something. I'm using the FRST OFAC management with mine, fitted with a MSD live map chip becuase they are local to me. Give some of the local tuners in your area and ring and see what they can fit and map for you, and then see if it meets your requirements
Thanks

If you want to use the T3 turbo, you will need the Escort Manifold. But a modification is necessary, the ports line up on the zetec and escort manifolds, but the bolt pattern doesnt, so you have to modify it, this can be done in a number of ways-
Redrill and Tap 8 new exhaust stud holes int he zetec head using the CVH exhaust manifold gasket as a template. These studs will break out into oil ways, so make sure you seal the studs somehow, and clean out the gallerys , as the swarf will cause havok inside you engine
Cut off the flange from the zetec exhaust manifold and weld it onto the escort manifold, or buy a exhaust manifold plate for the zetec engine from somewhere who sells kit cars, or somewhere like Demon Tweeks and weld that onto the escort manifold
Use an adaptor plate, usually from PhilM on this forum, this bolts to your head on the zetec holes and has threaded holes for studs to bolt the escort manifold too, this is the way i'm going, however i'm a bit worried about the proximity of the turbo to the radiator which this plate fitted, but i wont know until the engine is on its mounts.
Hope that helps

how much for this plate, and do u know how thinck it is. There isnt much room between the rad and the manifold anyways.

ok, so if im getting the escort turbo and manifold, what IC can i use, the standard fiesta or the standard escort IC. Also, im guessing the boost pipes i need would depend on the IC.
Also that boost carrage thing, can i just use a standard CVH turbo one, or do i need to mod it to make it fit?
thanks again, sorry for all these questions.

If you mean the crossover/charge carrier pipe and your doing a full zetec 16v conversion, you can use it, but you need to lower the RHS of your engine approx 10mm to allow it to clear the bonnet, and make up some sort of bracktry, weld on flanges or rocker cover stubs etc to allow the the crossover pipe to be bolted down, as there are no provisions for it.
OR
You can adapt a Rover inlet manifold from the M16 engine i think, which gives the pipe exit out the RHS, i.e, no pipe over the hot rocker cover. (Better idea but more modification required)
Thanks
Matt
