Zetec Turbo on the cheap - Checking requirements!

Postby Rhinopower on Sat Apr 01, 2006 12:43 pm

From what i've read i need....

2.0 Decom plate and focus rs head gasket
t3 manifold and turbo & downpipe
oil feed and return (taken from sump and oil pressure sensor hole)
ofac loom ecu and map sensor & TPS (may consider megasquirt though dependin on loom fitment on an escort)
im thinking a cossie 2wd intercooler, this will require minimum adjustment to the front bumper to fit in the lower grill space
custom hosing and crossover pipe
uprated side fed injectors
tps convertor, think there was someone on here before that made one so just need to find out how.

i think megasquirt will be the solution with this setup, although i will be looking at a v3 ecu with internal edis to keep my existing loom.

What else will i need to get/take into consideration?

Why side-fed injectors? FRST fuel rail and inlet manifold.
Breathers on the back of the block and one on the cam cover.
Breather system.
Modified FRST charge carrier and a FRST-orientated front mount would mean off-the-shelf boost hoses.

Plus you would not need the TPS converter thing if youw were using the Megasquirt. Also worth considering, I'm not entirely sure the Zetec FPR can handle + pressure, therefore the fiesta one makes sense.

Scort - I'd be surprised if the FPR on the FRST/2i 8v is anything special ('specially since the 2i 8v uses the same one as the FRST).

Zetec inlet should flow better than the CVH EFi one as the ports are a lot larger, shouldn't it...?

I still haven't checked the TPS specs, but I'm fairly certain the ECU reads the voltage from the middle pin and not the resistances, so I think there's a fairly good chance both read +5v to 0...

Comments/flaming? ;o)

I'm pretty sure your right about the Zetec inlet Project. It should definately flow better.

The CVH FPR does measure positive pressure though, for obvious reasons. I'm 99% sure that the Zetec one cannot, only vacuum. Leading to obvious problems.

Your right, both have a +5Vref, and a signal. They are both different though. They just will not work sensibly with OFAC-OFAB. I'm sure it's possible to make a circuit up to make it work thoguh. If your planning on a re-map, prehaps this is workable. I know megasquirt would make this an easy to evercome problems, with less than a couple of 'clicks'! :)

Megasquirt is going to be a definate then, i'l also find an external edis loom to use to save a few quid, and modify it to suit.

I want to know if there is an alternaltive location for the breathers, so they can be plumbed in with the engine in situ.

I need to find out what the alternaltive side fed injectors and FPR are!

You won't save a great deal by changing you loom mate. Use a V3.0 MS1, and add an extra VB921 for a secondary driver. Eliminates the use of the E-DIS, and a pretty much direct replacement for your ECU.

A recent MS1 V3.0 I built:

Note the VB921 on the lid.
