Zetec turbo pistons

Problem or technical question?

Zetec turbo pistons

Postby escortdriver1 on Wed Mar 20, 2013 2:13 pm

Just a quick one

Ive picked up some cosworth frs wrc conrods to put in a zetec silvertop turbo
Im unsure what pistons to put in the silvertop wont go in because of the gudgen pin side so im wondering will the frs ones be fine to go in?
Unsure wether to go forged or get hold of some standard ones but what bhp would they be safe up to? Also would they be tight in the bores going in a 2.0 with just a hone to bed in the rings?

Cheers

If you wish to use standard focus rs pistons you will have to have them fitted into A brand new block Because of the size of the pistons if you put them in a seasoned block they will not seal properly

it would be a waste of time fitting steel rods to cast pistons..if there i-beam ones then buy some nice pistons for them or fit some c20let (calibra turbo) ones as im 99% sure the pin size is the same.. did you buy these rods off of ebay?

Im using a set of brand new frs pistons from graham goode for £260 posted, in a lightly used block. No reason you can't do the same. Your using brand new rings, no reason it wont seal.

Lol sorry mate, and was well chuffed with the price :) they havent turned up yet to measure them but theres a thread on pasionford that says they are 22mm and the c20let is 21, i supose i could try and find somewhere that may make new bushes that are slightly smaller if need be.

Or the standard focus rs pistons was the other option but i cant get a 2.0 zetec thats done under 100k :(
Im just woried the pistons wont be tight enough in the bores as ive felt the movement in another engine and the pistons were moving about 2mm ish in the bores dont know if this is normal or not?

And i have heard horror stories about the fra pistons melting and no-body seems to know where to get piston rings for them :(

I run those rods with forged omega pistons.
Engine was professionally build so I'm unsure of the size of the small end but I'm 100% it was machined to fit.

Best rods money can buy really!

Yeah it does sond like the cheapest and easiest bet to be honest, would they fit ok in a used 2.0 bore? Or around what mialage engine would be the best to look for for a good bore to fit these into? Just woried about them sealing

Would the omega pistons require a bore to fit?

Omega pistons will need a bore as they are for a c20let engine.
They are available in 86mm 86.5mm and 87mm.
There not cheap though.

i used to run these rods , there a very odd size 1mm longer than silvertop rods and about 4mm shorter than blacktop ones . pistons need to be custom made for the rods.
i have wrecked two of mine and had i seen these i would of bought them :(
if you want to sell them let me no
