Zetecs - Which is the best?

Postby Mark Si on Tue Jun 11, 2002 1:52 pm

Right having spoken to a few people I've decided I AM going to do an engine swap in about a year when i might be able to afford the insurance. I'm sick of the lack of top-end power in my 1.6 and am considering 3 different engines:

1)1.8 XR2i 16v
2)RS1800 1.8
3)2.0 Mondeo

Any opinions as to which would be the best all-round, considering performance, ease of transplant, tuneability, reliability and quite importantly, inusurability?

Also what is essentially involved in putting one of these in my 1.6 Si seeing as they're all Zetecs. I've spoken to Phil about this but he doesn't really know seeing as he was making tea and mopping up oil when Fiesta boy etc were putting his 2.0 in :bonkers:

Cheers

i would say the rs1800 would be the best all rounder m8, got 130bhp which is alot more than the xr2i and its about the same as the 2.0ltr i think its also got alittle bit more low end grunt than the 2.0ltr

even still the series 3 is by far a different animal, even with a cat the car is rather nippy, i ran a cat on the engine for the past 1000 miles.

id definately say 100% go for a Zetec-R from a focus

Cool cheers lads. Is the series 3 Zetec-R hard to make fit? looks a different layout to the series 1s like I'm considering.

Any ideas on insurability on any of these fine powerplants aswell?
