Yeah, sorry Toby. Didn't mean to spread the dreaded plague over to your thread. Jony's thread has gone, mine is on it's way out. I just hope yours survives. Just don't upload any pictures LOL

hoping to iain
first update of the year
bought shauns cossie front brake steup the other day but something fouls the caliper from sitting straight which mk3's dont have, luckily a friend of shauns wants them back so i wont have lost anything on them.
back on the look out for some fiesta st brakes. i would go for the 300mm setup that can still fit under 15's but i dont think the show wheel will fit over them which is why im now going for st's hopefully.
anyway been meaning to finish of painting the underside of the car
done as much of the boot floor as i could without having to take anything off.
before after a quick wash, suprisngly clean and not much in the way of rsut only surface at that which was taken back with a wire brush
after
later in the year when its warmer i aim to take the back box off and the heatshileds and paint underneath, possibly the whole exhaust system and do the middle as well. need to get some hammerite spray as well for the hard to reach places that my brush cant get to
also does anyone know what the bar across the middle of the floor is can be seen in the first pic the black bar. doesnt seem to do anything that i can see

The 130 spec Zetec is fine with the standard Mk3 brakes.
Is that bar there to reduce body flex/stiffen the shell?

Having good brakes isnt all linked back to your cars power, its to do with weight. The brakes on your car aren't stopping the bhp your engine is producing its slowing down the car, which is weight. This applys to most road cars, especially MK3's running under 200bhp. In the whole 2 years of owning my RS1800 I never felt the need to upgrade the brakes. From what I understand Toby is planning future power upgrades so I can understand why he wants ST brakes.

Jony, your 1.8 is only 130 spec, wouldn't say it has "more power"

someone failed maths...
130spec= 130ps at factory, the Zetec s has 99-105ps depending which year it is, therefore it has less
what was meant by what i said is the more power you have the faster you can go, and less time it takes to get to that speed, but ofcouse wayne would rather take the piss than see reasoning,

jon obviously the bigger the brakes the quicker you can stop, doesn depend on how powerful your car is. i no zs's arent the quickest, but i would rather have a car that handles well and brakes well. my polo gti was quicker but the zs's is lighter and handles better so it makes up for it plus most zs's are around the 115bhp mark that ive seen for standard ford underread them i heard so they werent competing with vtr's and the like

Re: ZS - update 24/1/11
coming on nice mate.
maybe the bar is there on that boot flor to ensure the sprae wheel doesnt move around? maybe it clamps up against it, although i cant see the need for it as ford would just make different wheel trys like they did on the mk3, so if its not for that, i dunno
