Re: ZS - Floor hammerited 6/10

Postby Minstral on Wed Oct 06, 2010 7:09 pm

started this a while ago but weathers been so bad recently i havent had time to finish it. i planned to just hammerite around the seals to help protect them but then i started going further and further to the middle  so ive hammerited from the edge of the sill all the way to the exhaust tunnel
drivers side
Image
passenger
Image
has come out well and found it easier than painting the arches
next is to take the spare wheel and carrier off and do the rear floor. takes a while as this is all on my drive no big lifting euqipment for me :(
if i ever need to take the exhaust off i will paint the tunnel then

ah looks good mate, i need to underseal the Si soon ready for the salty winter :(

id rather underseal it than hammerite though, its cheaper and more resistant agaisnt stone chips and other abrasives :Q

for the best lifting get a jack on the main chassis legs, nearest the tunnel and lift from there on both front and rear, should ge tit high enough for you to slide under :aviator:

Got to disagree about the underseal; it's a sticky black mess that never dries. All that happens is crap gets stuck to it that can't be scrubbed off. Something like hammerite that dries solid is much better as you can keep an eye on it (you'll never see rust starting under thick underseal) and you can jet it off.

pointless undersealing a car of that age,
the rot is already there by now and theres nothing you can do unless you get it back to bare metal
depending on how far its gone, some can be treated other bits need to be cut out!

well seeing as there is no rot of any kind on the floor yet it makes sense to stop it before it actually starts

Re: ZS - light fixed 17/10/10

Postby Minstral on Sun Oct 17, 2010 8:38 pm

small update
as said before bought a smoked headlight off ebay to replace my passenger one as the middle bracket had broken on it and didnt sit pproperly on the bumper. it finally turned up during the week then i found that the glass had smashed due to rubbish packaging. but realised that if i take the glass off the original headlight on the car and stick it on to the new one it would be fine. i actually then ended up taking the whole inners out of the new light and sticking the old headlinghts inners in as the paint inside was much better and a matt black colour, so wouldve looked odd compared to the other. so all bolted back together now with no nails around the outside just to make sure its water tight.
all fitted and on the car, good as new
Image
can just see how it sat before
Image
and sitting properly on the bumper not sitting back behind it
Image

still trying to sell the polo then i can do something with this, refitting some standard rear speakers as well at the moment just got to find the passenger side speaker wire as i think its been cut down at some point

Thats better :) Pretty much how my car was when I got it, however mine was accident damage rather than snapped brackets. I could never find the rear speaker plugs in mine to had to run new cables down either side of the car. Not a bad idea to do that anyway really.

thought id update this to say the rear speakers are fitted, thought i would have to extend the wiring on the passenger side to reach but i found all the right wiring just piled behind the 3/4 panel so all in and working, and also finally started it today after about a month of the battery being flat. took it up the roadmake sure it wasnt the brakes werent siezed on and all is fine just want to drive it now :D
