For a FRST your best keeping it a 1.6 CVH or going the hole hog and do a Zetec Turbo.

A well tuned 1600 can deliver the goods and will rev better than a ZVH

i will second that you are starting from scratch go full zetec or stay cvh to make a zvh produce the goods cost money

It also depends on your needs and whet you plane to do to the engine.

1. if you plane to build an engine for high bhp levels the a Zetec Turbo

2. I you can't afford to spend that much then tune the 1600 for high levels

3. If you need to do a cheap rebuild then a ZVH is a good conversion for the money as it can be cheaper than a CVH turbo rebuild

A flowed head with bigger valves and a cam works well as a ZVH, Very good for N/A engines.

It depends on how much you want to spend really

is fitting bigger valves as simple as that, or do they need serious grinding/fitting in??

What sort of money we talking for that?

head work including porting polishing and fitting of bigger valves is a job to be done by the pros.
When bigger valves are fitted the old valve guide is drilled out and bronze valve guides are fitted this is then used as a centre to machine the new larger valve seats and sometimes hardend valve seats are fitted using nitrogen to shrink them before the are fitted in the machined space.

That piston is knackerd mate and if i was you id drop the pistons out and have a look at the bores you will most probably find the bores with the knackerd pistons are also knackerd.

If so you will at least need a rebore and larger pistons as well as a new head.

Your best bet would probably be to find a block and head complete from another rs turbo.

It all depends on how much money you have to spend.

in theory if theres nothing wrong with the ancillaries on the engine then you could just get a 1.6 cvh out of anything(correct me if im wrong but didnt they do a 1.8 or was that an overbore i saw :-? ) if it wasnt get a 1.8 and bolt the ancillaries to that and get some more power that way

i may well be talking out of my arse but i like imparting wisdom
