ZVH Pistons

Postby Low Down And Dirty on Wed Oct 30, 2002 7:17 pm

Right.

Apparently, according to vauge sorces if you do a ZVH turbo convertion on a 1800 lump then if you have the block bored out from 81mm to 83.5mm then you can use Calibra pistons and turn it into a 1900.

Just wondered how much truth there is in this and I assume you use Calibra Turbo pistons.

Any help would be appreciated.

83.5 is a massive overbore....and Calibra pistons are 86mm anyway, ie, 2.1 ltrs.

If there were 3.5mm pistons avilible, theres no point as the block walls would be too thin, stick to std pistons, they are okay at 18psi if setup right. And 8.3:1 as std :)

By using standard pistons does that mean they don't need plaining or anything like that?

not that this is gonna help but i've been told that the standard pistons r good for 14psi :D :D

1 problem with that is i dont know if they need to be skimmed or not as a few different 'motorsport' companys have told me yes and a few say no :-? :-? :-?

i'd like to know aswell cos i'm in the middle of building 1 :D :D

standard pistons might be good for 14psi boost but personally i dont think they would last for long...the way that i see it is if your gonna spend so much money on doing the conversion in the first place, i would go the full way and do everything properly...

calibra pistons will make a 2L zetec bottom end turn into a 2.1l bottom end. U also have to have the conrods modified so they can mount on the crank or the pistons properly!

Andy(lowdownanddirty)
My engine was built by HT Racing. They have used calibra turbo and Sunny GTi-R pistons previously.

I can sort 86mm (2.1ltr) Mahle Forged pistons for £150/set. Also can get 2ltr zetec engines for about £200 :).

Quantum John. Have you got any more info on the pistons that were used, eg do the con rods have to be changed ?

Cheers

The mahle 86mm forged pistons that i mentioned are also known as "calibra turbo", can get the rods modded and fitted to the pistons locally also, not 100% sure on price for fitting to rods, but i'll find out, fark all i expect :Q

CR in a Zetec turbo 16v is in the region of 7.5:1, thats what i've been told, will find out soon (need to know mself the exact CR), but the are suitable for use in 2.1 Zetec turbo 16vs, they are the "common" piston everone refers to, anone ith a 2.1 has them really. (Other Forged Pistons such as Accralites usually come in 85/85.5mm - 86mm = mahle forged :p)
