Summer Evening Classics

One of the best things about the car scene is occasionally being surprised and delighted at seeing things you never expected.

On the first 20°c day of the year, with summer finally feeling like it was starting, a group message suggested we go to an evening classic car meet at a pub near Delamere Forest. The promise was of some old Land Rovers and the like, nothing terribly enticing but with perfect weather for a drive it seemed like a good plan.

As we approached we spotted the first sign that this was going to be exceed expectations. In this case a literal sign - one of those temporary yellow event markers, coupled with a string of no parking cones lining the gutter. A group of photographers populated the pavement as we got close. The pub itself, The Goshawk in Mouldsworth, was rammed with vehicles and we were directed up the road to park in a field. Already things were looking good as we spotted a Porsche 968, Capri. Elise, 911 Turbo S.

We parked up and immediately the conversation with complete strangers flowed, twenty minutes later we made our way down to the main event. Parked right out front was the RS 2000 F2 Maxi Kit Car. Built by MDA-Motorsport, this sports a Mountune engine and 6-speed sequential Xtrac box.

Despite being labelled as a classic meet, there was plenty of modern metal, from Fiestas to Ferraris. Captured below is just a small selection which in no way does justice the breadth of material on show. It returns again next month so hopefully I’ll shoot more then.
